The War Letters program is designed to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women in the First World War during the ANZAC centenary through different musical settings by four Australian composers, representing four generations, of letters from the 1st World War. Letters written during times of war offer deep insights into life for all involved in the war zone, including family and friends receiving and sending them. For composers and performers, the letters are texts rich with meanings and possibilities. War Letters, explores this interface between letter writing and music aiming to bring to life, through music, the thoughts of men and women involved in the 1st World War, making their experience relevant to today’s audience.
