I’ve not kept it a secret that I’ve been slow to appreciate voice (and I’m not talking about the tv show). The Gondwana Voices broke all reasons I’ve resisted in the past.
The Gondwana Voices were one of 5 choirs selected to attend the World Choral Summit in Beijing. They’re going to represent Australia and the Asia Pacific. This concert was their China Tour farewell.
They weren’t trying to tell us a story, other than saying it was a bit like a retrospective for them, they were just having fun and making music… and it was beautiful.

- They looked like they were enjoying themselves so much, you couldn’t help but be energised by their performance.
- They moved around the stage between and sometimes during pieces, which added to the energy.
- They connected with the audience.
- They introduced each piece and then let us enjoy them… the program wasn’t filled with the words so we weren’t tempted to follow along. You just enjoyed their music.
- Last and most importantly, they had wonderful voices.

I really liked it being only three-quarters of an hour. Not because I wanted them to stop; but because they left you wanting more. It finished and you were still really energised and excited by their performance. I think performers sometimes try to pack too much into their program.
Stay tuned,
Kate.
If anyone needs an introduction to voices – may it always be Gondwana. Totally irresistible!
