Acacia Quartet | Mendelssohn-Hensel, Chan, Beethoven

30 August 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

$17 – $49

Part of the Independent Theatre A Prelude in Tea Series | Cake from 2:30, Concert at 3:30.

Audience favourite the Acacia Quartet presents String Quartets by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Lyle Chan and Ludwig van Beethoven. Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel was an extraordinarily gifted musician. She had a very passionate personality, apparent in her only String Quartet in E-flat major. Although encouraged as a performer and composer during her childhood, she was not able to pursue a career in music but had to meet expectations of her becoming a wife and mother. Lyle Chan’s 4 short pieces are part of his epic String Quartet ‘An AIDS Activist’s Memoir in Music’, remembering all the people he met and worked with during his time as an AIDS activist. Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 135 is the last of his 16 string quartets, written only a few months before his death in March 1827. The last movement has the famous motto: “The difficult resolution–Must it be?–It must be, it must be!”
