A humorous celebration of Australian divas, June Bronhill and Dame Joan Sutherland.
Born June Gough, Bronhill adopted her stage name, an abbreviation of her birthplace of Broken Hill, as homage to the town that raised funds to send her to study overseas. Bronhill performed extensively in London and in Australia as a leading lady in opera, operetta and music theatre.
Dame Joan Sutherland is a name synonymous with superlatives. Dubbed “La Stupenda” by Italian audiences after a performance at La Fenice in 1960, Luciano Pavarotti also called Sutherland the
“Voice of the Century”.
In this world premiere part-theatre, part-opera celebration of these two giants, Australia’s current leading lady of opera and musical theatre Amelia Farrugia becomes…DIVA.
