Australian Chamber Choir | Bach’s Genius – The Motets – Geelong

31 October 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEDT

During JS Bach’s lifetime, in Germany and throughout Europe, the music that was performed publicly was almost always new works by living composers. The Bach motets were held in such high regard that they continued to be performed after the composer’s death. The publication of Forkel’s On Johann Sebastian Bach’s Life, Genius and Works in 1802 marked the beginning of what became known as the Bach revival. This was one of the earliest examples of historical research influencing concert programs. The Bach Motets were therefore part of a new phenomenon, which has resulted in audiences of today experiencing a treasure chest of six hundred years of repertoire.
