Australian World Orchestra
26 July @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST$79 – $209
The Australian World Orchestra returns to Hamer Hall for 1 spectacular performance Friday 26 July. This award-winning orchestra features Australia’s finest musicians who play in the world’s greatest orchestra, together on stage for their annual Australian concert tour.
2019 Guest Conductor Alexander Briger will lead the orchestra in a performance of:
- WESTLAKE, Nigel – Flying Dream
- JANÁČEK, Leoš – Taras Bulba, a Rhapsody for Orchestra
- SIBELIUS, Jean – Symphony No. 2, Op.43, D major
Nigel Westlake’s Flying Dream is an original composition by Westlake, a reworking of elements from the film score for the movie Paper Planes that Alexander Briger fell in love with instantaneously. It reflects the emotional journey of a 12-year-old boy and his father through airy phrases of flight and freedom.
Alexander Briger is a respected specialist of Leos Janáček’s works and it brings him great joy to present Janáček’s enthralling rhapsody Taras Bulba, a Cossack story of forbidden love, defiance, war, tragedy, triumph and loss, based on the novel by Nikolai Gogol.
The second half of the programme will be a performance of Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No.2 which is largely considered one of the greatest symphonies of modern times and one of Alexander Briger’s favourite works.
