BackStage Music is an artist-run series of concerts in the inner city of Sydney. At each concert, BackStage Music presents an early career artist alongside an established artist or ensemble in back to back sets of innovative, challenging and exciting music. Join us in the hidden laneways of Darlinghurst @ creative space 99 for the final gig in our inaugural 2017 BackStage Series featuring the Australian String Quartet + Will Hansen
For over 30 years, the Australian String Quartet (ASQ) has created unforgettable chamber music experiences for national and international audiences.
From its home base at the University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium of Music, the ASQ reaches out across Australia and the world to engage people with an outstanding program of performances, workshops, commissions and education projects.
The ASQ’s new venture, Close Quarters, takes chamber music back to its roots with hour-long concerts designed to encourage audience conversation and engagement.
The emerging artist for this gig is bassist Will Hansen. Will says…” I’ve got a strange obsession with contemporary classical and minimalist music, and the wealth of sounds that it explores. There’s something invigorating about modern music… to see new art being born with your help. Through collaboration, I’ve premiered a number of works spanning a variety of mediums including kooky electronics, prepared bass and even keyboards (Though don’t expect a recital from me soon, sorry!). I compose and play with my ensemble, SPIRAL, which continues to provide performances, while having cheeky laugh along the way… It’s my passion”
* entrance to the CreativeSpace99 is via Crown Lane which is at the rear of 99 Crown St Darlinghurst
