Great excitement surrounds the upcoming 13th Bowral Autumn Music Festival , an annual festival of chamber music to be held over 3 days from Friday 29th March until Sunday 31st March 2019. Myee Clohessy, our outstanding Artistic Director has planned another wonderful program consisting of 9 concerts. The varied program features exquisite solos by internationally acclaimed musicians including virtuoso pianist Stefan Cassomenos, Organist David Drury and Guitarist Matt Withers. In addition to this there will be exhilarating chamber music performances from some of Australia’s leading ensembles including the Acacia Quartet, Australian Baroque Brass, Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra Soloists. Two “Young Recitalists” concerts will feature extremely talented young performers- violinist Marcus Michelson, organist Titus Grenyer and the extraordinary Geist String Quartet. There will also be a special children’s concert “Da Vinci’s Apprentice” which is a delightful musical journey of discovery set in the 16th century, featuring a viola da gamba, a theorbo and a zink- this concert will no doubt appeal to families!
The festival presents a diverse mix of classical and contemporary Australian chamber music including a World Premiere of a work composed by Australian Composer Alice Chance for the sublime Acacia Quartet. There are several other world class performers performing much loved works during the festival by Albinoni, Bach, Beethoven, Cesare, Chopin, Dvorak, Elgar, Liszt, Mattheis, Piazzolla, Ravel, Rossini, Schubert, Verdi and Villa-Lobos. Australian composers will be well represented through wonderful works by Maria Grenfell, Nigel Westlake, Sally Greenway, Nava Ryan, Rick Alexander, Wade Gregory and Robert Davidson. Throughout the weekend the organ at St Jude’s Church will be played by Dr Allan Beavis and there will be a special Festival Church Service on Sunday morning at 10 am.”
All concerts will be performed in the beautiful ambiance of the historic St Jude’s Church in Bowral during autumn, a stunning time of the year to visit the Southern Highlands.
