Camerata | Marian Heckenberg in Recital
12 November 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEDT
$33 – $60
Around the globe with the double bass!
Camerata’s Principal Double Bassist Marian Heckenberg will take you on a musical journey around the world!
In this personal concert, Marian will share beloved music that has touched her throughout her travels abroad to music she’s discovered closer to home, accompanied by Stephen Tooke on Violin and Alex Raineri on piano.
Set amongst the beautiful surrounds of the François Klaus Studio at the Thomas Dixon Centre, you’ll hear exquisite music for the double bass by the likes of Michael Patterson (Aus), Matthew Hindson (Aus), François Rabbath (Fr), Ellen Taaffe-Zwillich (USA) and Marcin Antkowiak (Poland).
From the lush and lyrical Patterson duet, Sonatina 1, (joined by Stephen Tooke on Violin) to the hypnotic minimalism of Matthew Hindson’s Yandarra, which conjures up desolate, windswept yet beautiful landscapes, you’ll feel the essence of each place in this beautiful music.
François Rabbath has been very important to Marian’s musical life-journey, particularly during her studies with him in Paris, and Le Cri de Venise evokes his trademark ability to tell provocative stories through his music, and how he can express the full gamut of emotion through the bass.
This intimate recital will also feature bewitching music from American composer Ellen Taaffe-Zwillich whilst including some surprises in this eclectic line up of fascinating musical creations for the double bass.
Presented by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra
