Canberra Bach Ensemble | Die Stimmen erheben, um Hülfe zu bitten!
19 April 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm AEST
$20
Canberra Bach Ensemble is Canberra’s first and only ensemble dedicated to the music of J. S. Bach. It was established in 1999 by Canberra conductor and music educator Andrew Koll, just prior to the 250th anniversary of Bach’s death in 2000. To mark the occasion, Canberra Bach Ensemble was at the forefront of celebrations and presented a number of concert performances of Bach’s Cantatas and other works, many of which were performed for the first time in Canberra, and possibly Australia.
This project of performances was significant in the musical landscape of Canberra, inspiring many of the ensemble’s musicians to embark on successful music careers interstate and abroad. Its effect and influence on music in Canberra cannot be overestimated.
From 2016, Canberra Bach Ensemble presented regular concerts to critical acclaim, adopting historically informed performance practices and attracting guest musicians from around the country. Prior to COVID-19, Canberra Bach Ensemble had been invited to perform in the prestigious Leipzig Bach Festival, BachFest, in 2020, and was the only Australian group among many others from across Europe, UK, USA and South East Asia. This has been postponed to 2024.
‘Die Stimmen erheben, um Hülfe zu bitten!’ (We raise our voices, to ask for help!) is a special post-COVID relaunch and fundraising concert.
A Reception in the Haydon Hall follows the concert.
The program includes:
Movements from Bach’s ‘Magnificat’, ‘Mass in F’, and various Cantatas (BWV 36, BWV 38, BWV 78, BWV 119).
Artists:
Canberra Bach Ensemble
Soloists: Greta Claringbould, Maartje Sevenster, Andrew Fysh.
Director: Andrew Koll
