Charmian Gadd & Friends | Springing back to life

29 November 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm AEDT

Charmian Gadd & Friends will continue its “Springing back to life” concerts with a nod to the past.

This celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the first concert of Music Viva held on the 8th of December in 1975.

Charmian Gadd recounts, “it was a romantic evening shortly after the end of the War. The concert was billed “Richard Goldner’s Sydney Musica Viva.

It was a time of shortages and blackouts and luck would have it there was a blackout that day. Music Viva founder, Richard Goldner was not to be deterred by that. He went to see Sire Charles Moses of the ABC who was an Army man. He was adamant that the concert must happen and provided army generators to light the stands of the players.

Car headlights lit the entrance to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and some lovely young volunteers with torches saw the capacity audience to their seats.”

Goldner’s widow, violinist Charmian Gadd lives on the Central Coast and pays tribute to Richard Goldner’s historic contribution through this event on Sunday the 29th of November 2020.

“I couldn’t make it as romantic as that first concert back in December of 1945, but the setting of the Greenway Chapel is a hard one to better. We will have a superb KAWAI Shigeru piano and a group of players who are close friends and love to play together,” said Charmian.

The program will be favourites fitting into the required segments dictated by COVIDSafe restrictions.

Included will be some Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven and some guitar pieces played by Gregory Pikler, with guest violist Robert Harris, who both have their own special connection with Musica Viva.
