Desert Song Festival 2022

9 September 2022 @ 8:00 am ACST

Desert Song Festival (DSF) returns in 2022 after two years of cancellations.

The 2022 Festival is themed ‘Our Planet, Our Climate, Our Future’.

With a strong focus on climate action, the 2022 Festival will provide a platform for Youth, Youth Choirs and young artists. The future is theirs, and DSF 2022 will seek to amplify their voice through art, music and symposia. The viability of the planet for generations to come is at stake and as we face the existential reality of dangerous climate change and global warming, the values of DSF impress upon the organisers the need to ‘sing a song’ for the planet as a tool for climate action.

Starting in December 2021, DSF will launch a musical program in two Australian cities (growing during the following year to at least 10), encouraging singers, choirs and musicians to sing and make music for the planet as a means of galvanising public support for serious action for the climate from all sectors of the Australian community. It’ll be simple: go out into a public space once a month, sing three songs, unfurl a banner, stand in silence, roll up the banner and go home, returning month by month to do the same.

DSF will then invite as many choirs as are able, to bring that energy and experience to the DSF in Alice Springs in 2022, creating a ‘Climate Caravan’ as choirs and musicians travel to the Festival by air, by road, by train, and for those who can’t, we invite you to join us from your localities to make an incredible noise as we raise our voices and commit ourselves to climate action. The choirs and musicians will be joined at the Festival by some of Australia’s leading Climate Scientists who will present a Climate and Land Symposium alongside the musical program, providing festival-goers with a unique artistic experience, strengthening their capacity for climate action.
