Zelman Symphony | Double Concertos: David Griffths | Christopher Moore
25 November 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT
$15 – $46
World premiere performance of Harry Sdraulig’s Concertino for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra
Zelman Symphony is proud to showcase the superb pairing of brothers-in-law David Griffiths and Christopher Moore, two of Australia’s most well-known, exuberant and charismatic musicians. This is the fourth time that David, one of Australia’s leading clarinettists and a teacher at the Melbourne Conservatorium, has played with ZMSO. Christopher is Principal Violist with the MSO and was previously Principal Violist with ACO.
They will play Max Bruch’s Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra. Whilst having two such soloists for just 20 minutes seemed most inadequate, there are no other suitable works in the repertoire for this combination, so we decided to fill that gap for the enjoyment of our audience and in the hope that other orchestras would feature the same instruments. Zelman Symphony has therefore commissioned Harry Sdraulig to compose a Concertino for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra to pair with Bruch’s Concerto.
The program concludes with the Second Symphony of Jean Sibelius.
