Duelling Organs | The Organ Society of Queensland
5 November 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST$20 – $25
Admission is adults $25, and concessions $20. Children are free.
The Organ Society of Queensland in association with Albert Street Church will present the first-ever Australian concert featuring a large pipe organ and a virtual pipe organ with software from an even larger pipe organ – Melbourne Town Hall.
Organists Dr Steven Nisbet and Gregory Hartay-Szabo will perform the concert entitled ‘Duelling Organs’ with music arranged for two organs at Albert Street Uniting Church, Brisbane.
Steven will play on the church’s pipe organ – built by Benson (UK) in 1889, and rebuilt by J.W. Walker & Sons (UK) in 1984, and Greg will play on the virtual pipe organ with the digitally-sampled sounds of the rebuilt organ at Melbourne Town Hall (built by Hill, Norman & Beard (UK) in 1929, and greatly enlarged by Schantz (USA) in 2000 – it now has almost 8000 pipes).
Music to be performed includes Toccata in D minor (J.S. Bach), Trumpet Voluntary (Jeremiah Clarke), Star Wars Theme (John Williams), Fanfare (C.S. Lang) and Grand Chorus (Theodore Dubois).
Four video cameras will bring the action on the manuals and pedals to the audience via two data projectors – one for each organ.
Proceeds will go to Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice.
