Elysian Fields: Baroque Plus!
19 October 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT
Tickets: Concession $60 | Concession $50
Elysian Fields, Australia’s only electric viola da gamba ensemble, was formed by Jenny Eriksson, Matt Keegan and Matt McMahon in 2015, Keegan and McMahon being two of Australia’s most outstanding jazz musicians and composers. Jenny’s aim was to move beyond just playing baroque music and to explore jazz and improvised music in context where each musician was free to bring to the table the full range of their interests and talents.
In 2018 the ensemble released Australia’s first electric viola da gamba CD, “What should I say” to critical acclaim. In “Baroque Plus!” Elysian Fields explores the full scope of their repertoire including baroque music in charts such Elysian Fields and The Garden Party and folk music with a focus on Scandinavia (Frid På Jord, Vi Ska Ställa and Southern Cross). Pianist Matt McMahon has even set Renaissance poetry to music in the song cycle “What should I say”. This is an eclectic program to savour and enjoy!
Elysian Fields are:
- Susie Bishop | Voice & Violin
- Matt Keegan | Saxophones
- Matt McMahon | Piano
- Jennifer Eriksson | Electric viola da gamba
- Siebe Pogson | Bass Guitar
- Finn Ryan | Drums
