Elysian Fields | Swirling Flame: album launch

Elysian Fields, Australia’s only electric viola da gamba band, return to Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival (SIWJF) to celebrate the release of Swirling Flame, their third album. Led by intrepid viola da gambist, Jenny Eriksson, the album is a bold fusion of jazz, baroque, contemporary classical and folk influences—anchored by the haunting resonance of the rarely-heard 7-string electric viola da gamba. A range of composers will be featured including Icelander, Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir, Alice Chance, Laura Bishop, Matt McMahon, Troy Russell, Siebe Pogson and Susie Bishop.
The evening will commence with a performance by Austral Baroque (electric harp & electric viola da gamba duo). The duo is made up of leading harpist, Louise Johnson – for many years the principal harpist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra – and Jenny Eriksson, both in genre-defying electric mode!
BYO food and drink.
Doors from 7.30pm, music from 8pm
