Founded by viola da gambist, Jenny Eriksson, the band’s stella line up also features vocalist/violinist, Susie Bishop along with pianist, Matt McMahon and horn player, Matt Keegan. Jenny and Susie spoke recently to music promoter and executive producer, Philip Pogson.
Elysian Fields, Australia’s only electric viola da gamba group, has been invited to perform at the Sydney Women’s International Jazz Festival. Founded by viola da gambist, Jenny Eriksson, Elysian Fields headlined at the Vivid New Music at the Con Festival The Sydney Morning Herald wrote of Elysian Fields: “Here was a head-spinning dialogue between half a millennium ago and now, and a sound as foreign as dreaming someone else’s dreams. It emanated from Jenny Eriksson’s electric viola da gamba, the only example in Australia.”
Elysian Fields blurs the boundaries between chamber music, world music and jazz performing works of exceptional subtlety and beauty.
