Ensemble Q Sunday Series | When the World Was at War

19 April 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

$10 – $45

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon concert in the beautiful Conservatorium Theatre at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University on South Bank. Ensemble Q is a professional Ensemble in Residence at QCGU, and all concerts are held in the perfect acoustics of this comfortable 550+ seat theatre. Directed by Paul Dean and Trish O’Brien, Ensemble Q brings the best national and international musicians together for world class performances charged with electricity. A ground breaking mentorship program puts future stars of Australian classical music right into the thick of the performance.

Five composers whose lives were destroyed by war are brought together in this moving tribute to the beauty of their compositions at a time of complete chaos and pain. Contrary to obvious conclusion, this is a program of poignance and hope rather than pain, and shows the human spirit at its very best. Joining Ensemble Q is the phenomenal German Canadian violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel.

Program:
Schulhoff – Concertino for flute, viola and bass
Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin
Krasa – Passacaglia & Fugue
Kaminski – Quintet for clarinet, horn and string trio
Septimus Kelly – Elegy for string
