Described by Fine Music 102.5FM as ‘Australia’s rising star of jazz and blues’, Frances Madden – one of Australia’s classiest performers and most talented young singer song writers – returns to Foundry616 with her latest show ‘Practical Magic’.
“Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and her unique style.” James Morrison.
Frances’ music is jazz-oriented but with a broad adult contemporary appeal. Her shows are a mix of her unique take on timeless classics as well as her own original swing, blues and ballads.
In the past year or two, Frances completed a successful eight-show East Coast tour, as well as performing at festivals including Wangaratta Jazz, Sydney International Women’s Jazz, Manly Jazz, Hobart Festival of Voices and Devonport Jazz. She has played to capacity audiences at Australia’s most popular jazz venues including The Basement in Sydney, Birds Basement and the Paris Cat in Melbourne, Doo-Bop Jazz Club in Brisbane and she recently headlined at the JZ Club in Shanghai. Frances has supported Dionne Warwick, Gregory Porter and other international artists here in Australia.
Frances says: “I’m so looking forward to these two shows at our favourite home club. I’m part way through recording a new studio album with ARIA Award winning producer Chong Lim in Melbourne and we’ll be featuring some new material from that as well as some old favourites. We’ll also be recording both nights so I hope you’ll come along and be part of the fun!”
Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence together with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. Practical Magic the show takes its title from Frances’ whimsical tune of the same name. In addition to Frances on piano and vocals, the 7 piece line-up for the shows includes some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians.
