The Idea of North, Australia’s most highly awarded and best loved contemporary a cappella group performs as special guest artist of the Gondwana World Choral Festival.

About The Idea of North

Multi award-winning group, The Idea of North is a quintet of musicians, serious about their music without taking themselves too seriously.

Australia’s most highly awarded and best loved contemporary a cappella group has a beautifully distinct sound and style, but crosses many musical genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop, classical, comedy – exactly what you see and hear at a concert is difficult to describe, but we’re certain you’ll love it.

With two ARIA awards under their collective belt, a significant local and international fan base, and a wonderful back-catalogue of over 10 albums, it would seem that despite their uniqueness, people are getting better at describing The Idea of North to their friends. You may have heard and enjoyed the CDs, but the best stuff actually happens live and can’t be truly felt as ones and zeros, no matter how fast your internet connection is.

“One was again struck by not just the versatility and technical mastery of this group, but the fact that they were simply having fun. And fun, especially when so well-crafted, is contagious.” William Peterson, The Conversation

“Audiences have been treated to the vocal play of world-class a cappella outfit The Idea of North on many occasions over the years, but never quite like this. With the addition of acclaimed vocal percussionist Kaichiro Kitamura, The Idea of North takes its unmistakable and inimitable style to the next level. Tom Bowden, The Advertiser
