Hinterlandt | Seven Tales – Album Launch
20 August 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm AEST$1 – $25
Sydney indie-chamber ensemble Hinterlandt present their brand-new album “Seven Tales” at Venue 505 (which has moved from Surry Hills to Old 505 Theatre in Newtown. Recorded at Free Energy Device Studios with Richard Belkner, “Seven Tales” is the quintet’s fourth release for independent label Art As Catharsis.
“Seven Tales” is a significant step forward for the band, as composer Jochen Gutsch adds a narrative and poetic element to the intricate and purely acoustic music Hinterlandt has been known for. Beautifully sung by Nicole Smede, the album combines emotive storytelling with progressive musical arrangements.
All members of the ensemble are classically trained musicians with a passion for independent and contemporary music. The strong vocal presence by Nicole Smede is carried by the twin-like interplay of violinists Monique Mezzatesta and Jara Stinson, while the forceful cello of Simeon Johnson drives the rhythmically challenging compositions forward as Jochen Gutsch punctuates the arrangements with percussive guitars and captivating trumpet lines.
