This concert features three original works for solo piano composed by Hoang Pham during the lockdown in 2020 complimented by works of Liszt and Chopin. The famous Vietnamese song ‘Lòng Mẹ’ in a transcription for piano, provides the inspiration for Hoang’s two-movement Sonata Tragica. And there is a pairing of two Nocturnes, one by Hoang and another by Chopin before Liszt’s dazzling Mephisto Waltz provides a devilish conclusion.
