Josie and The Emeralds are delighted to welcome Richard Boothby, one of the world’s leading viol players, as guest artist on bass viol for their upcoming concert Fantasy.
Richard is co-founder of The Purcell Quartet and Fretwork, the pioneering viol consort, renowned for both Renaissance and contemporary music. Richard is visiting Australia in April, courtesy of the Australian Viola da Gamba Society. This concert with Josie and the Emeralds is his only Sydney appearance.

Richard Boothby’s solos include some of the newly discovered Fantasias for solo bass viol by Telemann and works by Abel, Param Vir and David Loeb.
Richard will play lyra viol in songs by William Lawes with Josie Ryan, soprano.
The program also features Bass Viol Trios by Forqueray & Lupo, and Fantasias for 5 viols by William Lawes as well as works by Brooke Green and Henry Purcell (arranged by Richard Boothby).
