Lloyd van’t Hoff + Peter de Jager – A Nightingale Sang for Brahms

10 March 2021 @ 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT

This concert is live streamed on Melbourne Digital Concert Hall
Live studio audience tickets are also available

Spurred out of retirement by the warmth of Richard Mühlfeld’s clarinet playing, Brahms’ resultant works for the clarinet would soon manifest themselves as masterpieces in the chamber music repertoire. Of those works, Brahms’ reflective E Flat Major Sonata for clarinet and piano emerges tenderly from the oeuvre of his twilight years. The romantic outpourings from his dear friends Robert and Clara Schumann form the perfect companion pieces to this Sonata –  a nod to the friendships that inspired Brahms throughout his life. Transfixed by the singing quality of Mühlfeld’s clarinet, Brahms often referred to him as ‘the dear nightingale’, and just as the nightingale sings its heavenly songs late into the evening, so too do we, marrying a selection of Brahms’ cherished Lieder with the voice of the clarinet.

As part of this concert we will be celebrating the launch of our debut album that encapsulates the wondrous music for clarinet and piano by Johannes Brahms. This project has been a long time coming for us, and we are so happy to release it into the world. So please join us for this very special event, and be among the first to get your hands on this exciting new album.
