Melbourne Musicians: TELEMANN 250
27 August @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm AEST
In his lifetime Telemann was more famous and more widely admired than his friends Bach and Handel. He was extremely prolific, which meant that after the rediscovery of Bach in the 19th century he was considered to be superficial and too facile. Since the beginning of the 20th century his work has been re-evaluated and his endless inventiveness has been recognised. We present concertos for two of his favourite instruments, with outstanding soloists.
TELEMANN Violin Concertos in A minor & G major; Oboe Concerto in F minor; Concerto for Oboe & Violin in C minor; Ascension Cantata “Gott will Mensch und sterblich werden.”
HANDEL Arias from Julius Caesar, Rodelinda and Joshua.
Anne Harvey-Nagl violin; Anne Gilby oboe; Sarah Lobegeiger de Rodriguez soprano.
