Musica Viva Tasmania | Kristian Chong & Brigid Coleridge

18 August 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm AEST

One of Australia’s leading pianists, Kristian Chong has performed throughout Australia and the UK, and in China, France, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, and Zimbabwe. His wide-ranging performance schedule finds him equally at home as concerto soloist, chamber musician and recitalist.

Brigid Coleridge is an Australian violinist currently based in Boston. Her recital projects focus on her interest in music and literature, displaying a critical and multidisciplinary engagement with the works she presents. She has performed as soloist and chamber musician in major international concert venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room. Brigid is presently a member of the Merz Trio.

The program moves between the Classical and the Modern. Mozart’s eighteenth sonata is one of the five two-movement ‘Palatine’ sonatas composed when he was with his mother at Mannheim. Romanian folk music influences both Enescu’s Impressions d’enfance and Bartók’s second sonata, but while Enescu leans towards a late Romantic idiom, Bartók gradually becomes more openly dissonant. Beethoven’s tenth violin sonata is his last, and also considered to be the final work of his so-called Middle Period, following closely after the composition of the Seventh and Eighth Symphonies.
