Oliver Shermacher | Willoughby Recital

Traversing a repertoire of five unique and colourful works for Solo Clarinet, Oliver Shermacher explores his own identity through his family, childhood and connections to ancestry. Featuring a commissioned work by Alice Chance, the evening weaves live music with electronics, cell phone choirs, singing and movement.
Oliver Shermacher is emerging as one of Australia’s most innovative and successful young musicians, specialising in integrating his experience in theatre with his solo performances. After winning the prestigious Freedman Fellowship in 2018, Oliver began commissioning Australian composers to develop the Australian contemporary solo clarinet repertoire. Since reaching the Grand Final and winning the Audience Choice at the Australian Young Performers Award in 2018, Oliver has performed as Soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Apex and is the Featured Artist of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra for their 2020/2021 Season, set to premiere the Alice Chance Clarinet Concerto with the Orchestra in September 2021.
