Opera Romance – QPAC Concert
28 June @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST
Get up close and personal with Aussie opera stars at intimate QPAC concert
Opera lovers can revel in backstage stories, soaring arias and breathtaking duets when two of Australia’s finest operatic voices, soprano Antoinette Halloran and tenor Rosario La Spina, come together for a special one-off concert presented by Opera Queensland.
Opera Romance will take over Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre on Thursday 28 June, offering audiences some of the greatest romantic solos and duets from opera and operettas, and fascinating stories of life backstage.
Opera Queensland launched the intimate series of concerts to provide a unique opportunity for audiences to hear more about the lives and musical passions of the stars they have encountered during their distinguished careers.
Since the first event in 2015, the concerts have proved a big hit with Queenslanders wishing to peer behind the stage curtains to learn more about the lives of some of Australia’s greatest performers.
Halloran and La Spina have worked together many times over the years, and have even released an album together – Puccini Romance.
Antoinette Halloran is one of Australia’s most accomplished and respected sopranos, performing regularly in lead roles with major Australasian opera companies and across the world – from Opera Australia to the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also known for her TV and radio roles as a guest judge, panellist and presenter on ABC TV’s Operatunity Oz, Spicks and Specks and Art Nation.
Queenslander and former bricklayer Rosario La Spina honed his voice in Brisbane and internationally before winning the prestigious, US-based Mario Del Monaco International Opera Competition in 2002. His albums have topped classical music charts in Australia and he is a regular soloist for the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras. La Spina is a popular performer across Asia, Europe and North America, and is a true Queensland audience favourite where he regularly performs with Opera Queensland.
The two stars will be joined by members of the Opera Queensland’s Open Stage Community Chorus.
