Out of the Shadows : Lunchbreak Concert 4 The Power Of Three
10 August @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm AEST
Profound and deeply moving, recent graduates of the Sydney Conservatorium perform a concert of string music composed in extremis. The first two movements of Georg Tintner’s Fugal Moods were written in flight from Vienna to Auckland via London.
Walter Wurzburger’s String Trio was one of the only works composed in the Tatura camp in 1941, where the musician had been detained after being declared an ‘enemy alien’ and deported from Singapore.
Gideon Klein’s String Trio was written only 10 days prior to the composer’s deportation from Terezín to Auschwitz, and is one of his most treasured and moving works.
Boas Bischofswerder’s Phantasia Judaica was the only work written on the hell-ship HMT Dunera – written for a male choir (but with missing words), the work has been rearranged for string quartet by Dr Joseph Toltz, following the cantorial style for which Cantor Bischofswerder was famous.
