Shakespeare and Friends
11 March @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm AEDT$45
Although it has been 400 years since Shakespeare’s death, his words live on. His plays are still performed everywhere, and his words have been adapted to every medium of entertainment that our popular culture enjoys. Classical music is no exception, and many of Shakespeare’s sonnets and verses have been adapted into artsongs and full-length operas. Simon Kenway explores the relationship between Shakespeare’s words and their relevance today through the bard’s words set to music by Mendelssohn, Verdi, Gounod, Quilter, Finzi and more. Featuring a strong cast of Pacific Opera young artists and alumni, this concert is not to be missed.
This performance is enabled through the generosity of the Yarranabbe Foundation.
Presented by Sydney Opera House.
