Celebrating 200 years of St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir

31 August 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm AEST

$15 – $75

Celebrating 200 years of St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir

On 31st August 1819, Governor Lachlan Macquarie laid the foundation stone of St Andrew’s Cathedral in a short service, accompanied by the singing of the newly-formed Cathedral Choir. That choir of boys and men has continued to sing and serve the city of Sydney for the past 200 years, and St Andrew’s Cathedral is holding a special concert to celebrate this extraordinary legacy.

Keeping in Tune with Heaven* will feature music that has been of significance over the past two centuries.

The Choir will be joined by the Cathedral Brass Consort, Organist Samuel Giddy and Harpist Esther Wong.

Directed by the 11th Organist & Choirmaster, Ross Cobb.

*This is a special fundraising concert for the choir’s tour to the UK and Europe this December/January.

You are also welcome to hear the Choir at the regular Cathedral Evensongs and Sunday Morning Services  (during school terms):

  • Choral Evensong is sung by the St Andrew’s Cathedral Choristers on Mondays 5:15pm – 6:00pm
  • Choral Evensong is sung by the St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir of Boys and Men on Thursdays: 5:15pm – 6:00pm
  • The St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir of Boys and Men also sing at the Sunday morning service at 10.30am – 12noon.
