Strelitzia Ensemble | First Impressions
7 October 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm AEDT
Tickets: Adult $39 | Concession $29
Strelitzia is delighted to return to the Primrose Potter Salon presenting the music of four powerful female voices. Join them for an exploration of Armenian folk-infused dance by Gayaneh Tchebodarian, the exquisite and intense trio of Jennifer Higdon, Alicia Grant’s evocative piece Lighthouse and the formidable masterpiece trio of Fanny Mendelssohn. The essence of these extraordinary works is rooted in themes of perception; from synesthesia to impressionism and the assertion of one’s own originality and identity.
Formed in 2008, Strelitzia is an award-winning ensemble. They have performed together in this current configuration since 2014. Originally based in Sydney, the group made their Melbourne debut earlier in 2019 with their acclaimed performance of the great Shostakovich Trio, some stylish Haydn and Kats-Chernin’s whimsical Calliope Dreaming. The trio is a distinct and important voice on the Australian chamber music scene having performed, commissioned and recorded the works of many Australian composers and have been praised for their creativity in presenting lesser known gems alongside beloved masterpieces of the repertoire.
“[Strelitzia] was nothing short of superb in its programming and delivery. [They] have taken great pains to tread unbeaten paths, exposing us to less well-known works and we are much richer for it. The playing was faultless and I can’t recall having a warmer feel; the performers and audience enjoyed themselves immensely.” – review from Still Life with Avalanche program (2016).
