Sydney Mozart Society | The Streeton Trio
2 February 2022 @ 8:00 pm AEDT
Now based in Sydney and including a widely recognised, prize-winning Italian-born cellist, the Streeton Trio was formed in 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland from three young Australian musicians. It is the only Australian ensemble to be selected for the European Chamber Music Academy. Now with four well-received recordings, this trio is securing its place amongst Australia’s best ensembles.
Trio members – Benjamin Kopp (piano), Emma Jardine (violin) and Umberto Clerici (‘cello) – are each outstanding musicians. They bring fresh interpretations and insights to the great works of the chamber music repertoire with performances distinguished by subtlety, nuance and dramatic range.
The Streeton Trio perform a programme that conveys the contradictions and complexity of the human condition. The concert begins with the cheerful wit of Mozart in the unusually minimalist K548. The mood shifts to the mystery and underlying sadness of late Schubert in Notturno, D897. The concert closes with a profoundly moving elegiac piece by Tchaikovsky who weaves despair and a deep sense of loss with sparkling, nostalgic melodies.
