The Muffat Collective presents: “Neapolitan Madness”
19 November @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm AEDT
Tickets: $37 Adult, $27 Concession, $15 student and $10 child.
Naples stood in high regard in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as a city that cultivated the modern operatic style.
Filled with composers then considered to be the giants of their day – Alessandro Scarlatti, Leonardo Leo, Leonardo Vinci and Johann Adolph Hasse (to name just a few) – the Neapolitan style was marvelled on the Italian peninsular and abroad.
“Neapolitan Madness” displays this style in all its glory with the Muffat Collective joined by renowned Australian soprano, Anna Sandström.
The concert portrays a cross section of the eighteenth century’s “doctrine of the affects” in the cantatas of the Scarlattis (father and son) as well as with instrumental music from further north – Venice!
Contrasting the Neapolitan ‘dialect’ was that of the Venetian instrumental style, perfectly characterised by the music of Antonio Vivaldi.
These contrasting styles are bound to keep audiences enraptured as the Muffat Collective presents a concert filled with Italian craftsmanship and artistry, fire and finesse.
