The Omega Ensemble: Beethoven’s Quintet
8 October @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEDT
Tickets: $99 Adult | $69 Concession | $29 Under 30
A concert of music celebrating the rich tapestry of the woodwind family.
In Nielsen’s biography, the author writes: ‘Nielsen’s fondness of wind instruments is closely related to his love of nature, his fascination for living, breathing things. He was also intensely interested in human character, and in the Wind Quintet composed deliberately for five friends, each part is cunningly made to suit the individuality of each player.’ Hindemith’s Kleine Kammermusik (small chamber music) presents the listener with an immediately enjoyable piece that sweeps away the cobwebs of Romanticism, embarking on a work that is deeply Neo-Classical with a German accent, evoking Hindemith’s deeply personal musical language. The charm of Françaix’s Quartet for Winds is filled with lightness that will delight you with its intricate and overlapping musical lines. The program concludes with Beethoven’s Quintet in E flat major for Piano and Winds, the only work of Beethoven’s scored for this combination.
- Nielsen – Wind Quintet, Op. 43
- Hindemith – Kleine Kammermusik for Wind Quintet, Op. 24, No. 2
- Françaix – Quartet for Winds
- Beethoven – Quintet in E flat major for Piano and Winds, Op. 16
