2018 Sunday Series: A Prelude in Tea
Join us on the last Sunday of the month for a scrumptious afternoon tea and concert from some of Australia’s best and most exciting small ensembles.
The Streeton Trio explores the themes of darkness and light, by three composers who inspired one another.
Brahms and Dvorak influenced one another’s compositions extensively throughout their lives, and both drew inspiration from the sublime music of Franz Schubert.
The death of Dvorak’s mother was the catalyst for his Piano trio in F minor, which is characterised by its dark and turbulent character. Brahms’ C minor trio has glimpses of nostalgia and light amongst the stormy key of C minor.
These are juxtaposed by the serene gentleness of Schubert’s Notturno for Piano Trio.
- Johannes Brahms – Piano Trio in C minor Op.101
- Franz Schubert – Notturno D 989
- Antonin Dvorak – Piano Trio in F minor Op. 65
