Intimate Sunday concerts featuring acclaimed local musicians to perform in Twilight in the Red Box at the State Library of Queensland
A series of intimate twilight concerts showcasing renowned Australian and international composers will bring to life the State Library of Queensland’s (SLQ) picturesque riverfront performance space over three Sundays in July – 8, 15 and 22 – for Queensland Music Festival’s (QMF)Twilight in the Red Box.
Curated by award-winning cellist Patrick Murphy and inspired by SLQ’s 2018 Signature Program theme ‘Lifestyle’, the concerts will feature works by luminaries Giacomo Puccini, Georg F. Handel, Fritz Kreisler, Adrian Willaert, Igor Stravinsky and Colin Brumby – reflecting on how day-to-day life has evolved and what it means to create meaningful lives in a rapidly changing and increasingly global community.
The three evenings of stunning music will be performed by the University of Queensland (UQ) Chamber Singers, string soloists hand-picked from the UQ School of Music, the UQ Pulse Chamber Orchestra and musicians from the 2018 Tinalley String Quartet Winter School.
QMF Artistic Director, Katie Noonan said Twilight in the Red Box is a wonderful opportunity for Brisbane music lovers to experience a beautiful classical repertoire in one of the state’s most contemporary venues.
“There’s no better place to experience works by some of Australia’s most celebrated musical minds performed by some of Queensland’s brightest and boldest voices and string players,” Ms Noonan said.
“I am particularly pleased that Patrick has chosen to pay tribute to the recently departed Colin Brumby, a wonderful Queenslander who’s beautifully composed notes live on in this series. I myself was lucky enough to sing his works and a nicer man would be hard to find!”
Twilight in the Red Box is presented by Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council, the University of Queensland and the State Library of Queensland. For more information and to book visit qmf.org.au.
