Chloe Lankshear and Heathcliffe Auchinachie’s Farewell Concert
Soprano Chloe Lankshear and guitarist Heathcliffe Auchinachie come together for a farewell concert before their move to Germany in October. The couple have worked together since 2018 when they first met at university and have since collaborated in recordings, performances, and arrangements. This concert is a celebration of the repertoire they first explored together and newer repertoire that they are taking with them.
Coincidently, 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of Julian Bream and Peter Pears’ recording ‘Voice and Guitar’ promoting and inspiring the resurgence of classical guitar and vocal repertoire in the 20th century. Bream and Pears commissioned some of the great contemporaries of their time to write for the duo including Benjamin Britten and William Walton. Villa Lobos also arranged his Bachianas Brasileiras no.5 for guitar and voice around the recording release date, and Emilio Pujol brought to light the guitar and voice arrangement of De Falla’s famous ‘Siete canciones populares Españolas’. Now in the 21st century, composers and performers are writing for this duo and arranging beloved French and German artsong.
This program will explore some of the works from ‘Voice and Guitar’ as well as arrangements of Villa Lobos, Dowland, Hahn, Debussy, Delibes, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Heathcliffe will also play works written for / performed by Julian Bream.
Card and cash facilities will be available at the concert.
Donations towards the couple’s future study are always welcome and appreciated.
