Willoughby Symphony Choir sings Messiah

23 June 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEST

Tickets: Adult $51 | Youth (16-26yrs) $23 | Junior (5-15yrs) $15 | Family of 4 (admits 4) $110

This is a performance of Handel’s Messiah with a difference. Willoughby Symphony Choir are presenting the full symphonic orchestration by Sir Eugene Goossens which adds a remarkable depth to this much-loved oratorio. This is a very unique arrangement that has rarely been heard in Australia.

This orchestration adds a grand, lush quality to the much-loved arias and choruses. These remain as integral parts within the oratorio, referring to stages in Jesus’ life, God’s glory, the promise of redemption and the victory over sin and death.

The choir is accompanied by the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, along with four wonderful soloists – Penelope Mills, Anna Dowsley, Robert MacFarlane and Christopher Richardson.

In addition, we are also holding a pre-concert talk on Goossens at 1.00 pm by Dr Stephen Mould in the Upper Foyer. Dr. Mould is Senior Lecturer in Conducting, Opera Studies and Repetiteurship at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and he is well known as a conductor. Currently he is researching the music of Eugène Goossens.
