Zelman Symphony | Romantic Passions – Beethoven and Brahms
3 July 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm AEST$6 – $39
Roy Theaker and Kalina Krusteva will thrill you with the exciting Brahms Double Concerto. This was the composer’s last work for orchestra and it was written for cellist Robert Hausmann, a frequent chamber music collaborator, and Brahms’ estranged friend, the violinist Joseph Joachim. Joachim was one of the greatest violinists of all time and the piece was a gesture of reconciliation by Brahms towards his friend.
When planning our 2020 season, we intended to pay homage to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven. We could not do that last year but Beethoven was born in December 1770 so this is still the 250th year since his birth. What better way of celebrating Beethoven than playing one of his famous symphonies. For this concert it is the 8th. The concert will start with Beethoven’s wonderful Egmont Overture.
Beethoven – Egmont Overture Op. 84
Brahms – Double Concerto in A minor Op. 102
Beethoven – Symphony No.8 in F Op. 93
Rick Prakhoff – conductor
Roy Theaker – violin
Kalina Krusteva – cello
