Flinders Quartet is instantly recognisable as one of Australia’s most loved chamber ensembles.
A quartet for the 21st century, Flinders continues its second decade with acknowledged musical skill and maturity. Their dynamic and stirring performances of broad repertoire have earned them high praise from both audiences and critics with the Quartet now a highly respected force in Australian chamber music.

In 2017 the Quartet celebrates Schubert’s ongoing popularity in 21st-century Australia, premieres new works and arrangements by Calvin Bowman and Iain Grandage, and enjoys repeat performances of Richard Mills’ outstanding String Quartet No.4.

  • Calvin Bowman – New Work Commissioned for Flinders Quartet by Julian Burnside AO QC
  • Carlos Guastavino – Songs Arranged For String Quartet (arr. Iain Grandage)
  • Franz Schubert – String Quartet No.15 in G

Argentinian composer Carlos Guastavino wrote more than 500 works, most of them songs for piano and voice which earned him the title of ‘Schubert of the Pampas’ and is a fitting composer to open Flinders Quartet’s celebration of Schubert. Australian Calvin Bowman is gaining a reputation as the ‘Schubert of the South’ and the Quartet premieres his brand new commission, with Schubert’s epic Quartet in G filled with energy and sharp contrasts completing the program that showcases three masters of song from across the globe.
