In a time before radio, CDs and Youtube, the only way to enjoy an orchestral work over and over was to have access to an arrangement for a smaller chamber ensemble. Thus our program ‘By Arrangement’ – a truly extraordinary glance back to another era when composers and their colleagues arranged popular orchestral works for piano trio in order to allow music lovers to enjoy their favourite music in their own home! This program presents three works by the masters Haydn and Beethoven and a new arrangement of one of Ravel’s small masterpieces, all presented by three of Australia’s most outstanding artists – SSO Concertmaster Andrew Haveron, ACO Principal Cellist Timo-Veikko Valve and pianist Kathryn Selby. Rarely performed, this is a truly unique experience for the chamber music lover!
- Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 96 in D major, ‘Miracle’ (adapted for piano trio by Johann Peter Salomon 1745-1815)
- Maurice Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin (arranged for piano trio by Matt van Brink, 2006)
- Ludwig van Beethoven Concerto in C major for violin, cello and piano, Op. 56 “Triple” (arranged by Carl Reinecke, 1824-1910)
- Kathryn Selby, Piano
- Andrew Haveron, Violin
