The ensemble is deeply committed to promoting Australian music by both emerging and established composers, and this features heavily in their programs.
Strelitzia is a Sydney based ensemble, originally formed as a Trio by founding members Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich (Violin) and Eleanor Betts (Cello) in 2008, which went on to win the prestigious Musica Viva Chamber Music Award the following year. Since 2012, the group has expanded to include viola, clarinet, bassoon and horn enriching the group’s repertoire further.
Strelitzia made their Opera House debut with a sold out performance for Musica Viva in the Utzon Room Series in 2011, and performed frequently that year for Musica Viva’s Chamber Music Essentials program in conjunction with Sydney University. Strelitzia recorded their first CD comprising trios by Arno Babajanian and Matthew Hindson and in 2014, performed the Dohnanyi Sextet and two new Australian works in a studio recording for the ABC.
Since 2012, Strelitzia has presented their five program Subscription Series in Sydney and Newcastle. A regular fixture of the lunchtime concert programs St James and St Stephens in the Sydney CBD, the group also presents programs at Lutanda Manor in Pennant Hills and the Nolan on Lovel Gallery in Katoomba.
