Breakdance meets Classical Music – The Visual Translation

German, and four times breakdancing world champions, Flying Steps, and opera director Christoph Hagel interpret Bach’s composition and translate into choreography. They bring the two worlds to new audiences. The video above explains the concept behind Red Bull Flying Bach.

After a highly acclaimed world premiere in Berlin and the ECHO Classical Special Jury award 2010, they’re touring!

Their creative performance visualizes and revives Johann Sebastian Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier crossing the borders of serious music and youth culture. Note by note. Step by step. With piano, harpsichord and electronic beats. With head spins, power moves and freezes. With visuals and a storyline, 70 minutes long.

Tickets are on sale for March 2013 in Sydney & Melbourne.

This is something we really identify with and want to spread the word about what they’re doing.

One would think that Bach appeals only to a particular type of audience or moods and that breakdance appeals only to a certain social class or location, for example the street
