I am excited that Yellow Lounge has launched in Australia! After 7 years in Berlin and the UK we finally get to enjoy classical music without rules. The objective of Yellow Lounge is to bring classical music together with cutting-edge DJ’s in cool urban spaces. In a nutshell, Yellow Lounge has the same goal as classikON – demystifying classical music and binging it to a newer and younger audience.
After a great welcome by Cyrus Meher-Homji, General Manager Classics and Jazz, Universal Music we were treated to an amazing performance by the highly acclaimed Noah Stewart. What a voice! I am sensitive to the emotions embedded in music and during Noah’s rendition of This Land Is Mine, I fell in love with him and then he broke my heart – all this within the one song. He sings with a passion and intensity usually seen in a much more mature performer.
Noah was joined on stage by Rachael Leahcar (of The Voice fame) who performed La Vie En Rose, leading into a duet between the two diametrically opposed performers.
I had the great fortune of speaking personally with Noah and he is as lovely as he is talented. Noah still lives with his mother (when in New York, which is not very often) in Harlem and she still “tries” to wash his clothes (despite his attempts to be independent). There is a kindness and innocence to Noah which I don’t believe he will lose with his future fame. He has close family ties and a genuine appreciation of how lucky he is to sing his way around the world.
The evening ended with The Faders, a female DJ Duo who are new to the Universal Music family. Milly Gattegno and Suhana Lye brought us a fabulous mix of the familiar and the fabulous. Their new album ‘F.U.N’ will be released later this month (for the dance minded).
Yellow Lounge’s launch in Australia was a resounding success and I look forward to many more intimate and cool performances in the future.
