Music & Tea at Wolllongong Art Gallery hosts the monthly Emerging Artist Concert Series.
In June, we present City Tidda, a bold and personal project from trumpeter Sophia Rose. Created to share her love of music, roots, and identity, the program explores contemporary urban life through the lens of a First Nations woman. The title, using ‘Tidda’, meaning ‘sister,’ reflects connection, strength, and community.
Blending original music with jazz influences, City Tidda considers how the music-making traditions of Blak peoples and African American musicians have evolved over time. For Rose, jazz represents freedom, resilience, and artistic self-expression.
Joining her are Nate Griffin (drums), Oscar Lubbock (piano), and Alex Parsa (double bass), with mentorship from composer Chiara Minotto. All are emerging artists studying in the jazz program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Rose is a proud Wiradjuri and Barkindji woman raised on Dharawal Country.
This concert is FREE – Donations appreciated.
