Flourish and Flair! A title truly spoken for the ever-popular combination of Trumpet and Organ!
The historic splendour of St Kilian’s Church, Bendigo – including the internationally-significant 1871 German-built pipe organ – will take on new meaning in the world-premiere of a newly-commissioned work by Australian composer Gordon Kerry: a piece honouring not only Henry Backhaus, the first Catholic priest on the Bendigo goldfields whose legacy (both musical and financial) lives on to this day (literally, as Backhaus ordered and paid for the St Kilian’s organ in 1871), but also the remarkable life of the greatly-loved Monsignor Frank Marriott OAM, to whom the work is dedicated.
And for the rest of the program, packed with the most popular trumpet and organ music, both virtuoso trumpeter Louisa Trewartha and Thomas Heywood will dazzle and inspire in a feast for the ears (and eyes!).
