Orange Chamber Music Festival | March 7 to 10, 2024 Wow, another Orange Chamber Music Festival has finished, the fourth so far, and isn’t it going places, covering not just music but the visual arts, performing arts, and food & wine! It combined all that is great about the Orange region over four days, particularly our “deep cultural traits”, as
Mozart composed a set of 6 String Quartets, dedicated to his mentor, Josef Haydn, in 1782-85, the second of which is the only one in a minor key and which Australia’s own Acacia Quartet skilfully pairs with a contemporary work by young Australian composer Alice Chance and Dvorak’s famous “American” Quartet in F Op.96 on their latest of 10 CDs
I spent the weekend rediscovering the NSW city of Orange, enjoying bushwalking in Mt Canobolas’ sub-alpine forests, tasting plates in local wineries, fine accomodation with fresh figs from the farm’s orchard, and quiet wanderings through the town’s stunningly autumnal parks and gardens. Orange Chamber Music Festival: Gala Melbourne Digital Concert Hall from Orange, NSW, April 8, 2021 Joy and expectation were in the air at the Opening Gala of the Orange Chamber Music Festival in the central west of NSW. Introductory speakers and live audience alike were visibly keen to be part of the inaugural festival, delayed a year by the pandemic.
Acacia Quartet performing works from their CD with Jane Sheldon ‘North+South’ were joined by two works by Lyle Chan. A perfect way to finish the week. Jane’s beautiful voice sang through a range of traditional, arranged, and new works, that washed the stress of the week away. Read our review of their CD North+South.
