Over the last month, 38 talented young classical singers from across Australia and New Zealand, have competed in the heats for a place in the 2022 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Final.
The semi-finals were held on Sunday 12 June at the Zenith Theatre, Chatswood with each artist performing two arias. Eight outstanding Finalists were selected for the Opera Scholarship Final. The talent in the heats has been exceptional and the eight Finalists bring an outstanding level of professionalism and incredible talent to this year’s final.
The 2022 Opera Scholarship Finalists are:
– Matthew Avery (Winmalee)
– Olivia Payne (Leichhardt)
– Jeremy Boulton (Wollongong)
– Anna Stephens (Waterloo)
– Raphael Hudson (Arncliffe)
– Karina Bailey (Sydney)
– Nathan Bryon (Lane Cove West)
– Kristin Astouroghlian (Endeavour Hills, VIC)
The 2022 Reserve Finalists are:
Reserve Finalist 1: Clare Hood (Auckland, NZ)
Reserve Finalist 2: Amelia Wawrzon (Moonee Ponds, VIC)
Each Finalist will compete for a total prize value of $61,000 to undertake further studies in Australia or overseas. This prestigious scholarship discovers fine voices across Australia and New Zealand and provides an invaluable experience for young vocalists to perform live in a wonderful venue and with a well-known orchestra.
The finalists will be accompanied by the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the well-known conductor and Sydney Eisteddfod Ambassador Dr Nicolas Milton.
The adjudicators judging this event are; Christine Douglas, Stuart Maunder AM and the guest adjudicator, Richard Mills. All three adjudicators possess a wealth of experience and knowledge and know first-hand how important performance and professional development opportunities are for young singers.
The Sydney Eisteddfod 2022 Opera Scholarship Final will be held on Sunday 26 June at The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood at 2pm.
