Kate Tribe (classikON’s founder) solo exhibition opens 1st May in Haymarket

dl front life activity 1000

Wondering what Kate’s been up to since passing on the reins of classikON?

Wonder no more…

You are invited to the opening of ‘Life Activity‘ and enjoy the contemporary visual feast, with a fabulous wine from sponsor, Huntington Estate. It will be opened by Valerie Khoo, CEO of The Australian Writers Centre, podcaster, and prolific artist as a painter and surface designer.

Redefine your view of cross stitch with these contemporary improvised artworks
Having cross stitched since single digits and regularly returning her pay to the craft shop of one of Kate’s earliest jobs, she has transformed her early passion into creating contemporary abstract artworks.
Over the decades, she has gone from pattern follower, to experimenter, then creator, and artist. The process of following patterns or pre-design was abandoned for a creative improvised approach, where Aida cloth and colour palette are selected, then stitching feelings. As a visual problem solver, her works are a representation of that process, being improvised while stitched, they tell a story via colour and shapes to create a hypnotic space to get lost in.

Solo exhibition ‘Textured‘ in 2016
Seven of Kate’s works representing an autobiographical story have been presented at an exhibition and concert.  Acacia QuartetSirius Chamber EnsembleDuo Blockstix, and Elysian Fields were given a selection Kate felt reflected their style, and they selected music to perform that they felt reflected the cross stitch. It was a sell-out at the Mosman Art Gallery Grand Hall.

This exhibition, ‘Life Activity‘ represents the activity of life
The works represent the regular movement of our bodies between locations and mentally between what is requiring our attention.
The exhibition has two series representing movement.
  • ‘Commuter life’ is the paths and tracks we use when we travel, and particularly when commuting, it can become a circular or repetitive rhythm.
  • ‘Being pulled and folded’ reflects the mental demands for our attention, where there is a constant tug or pull between the different parts that exist for us. The first in this series was in Textured and available in this exhibition to view, with a limited edition print for sale. This ‘Being Pulled‘ shows how, when there is so much good stuff going on in your life that it can feel like you’re squeezed tight in a hug and stretched wanting to do everything and be everywhere at once; sometimes feeling like you’re running around in a circle doing a dance of joy.

All works completed using stranded cotton on Aida cloth. Original works and limited edition prints for sale.

Come to the opening on 1st May 6-8pm
You are invited to the opening celebration on Wednesday 1st May, 6-8pm at Bendigo Community Bank Darling Square (Shop NE12, 11 Little Pier Street, Haymarket NSW 2009).
Enjoy the visual feast with fabulous Huntington Estate Wines, with thanks to Tim and Nicky Stevens for sponsoring.
